MBA Course Requirements

What is required for a MBA at Lamar University?

For students with an undergraduate business degree, the Lamar MBA is a 30-hour program (21 hours of core and nine hours in a concentration).

For students with non-business undergraduate degrees, the MBA requires up to 36 hours. This includes an additional six hours of leveling courses. These courses (if on your transcript) can be waived by the graduate director at their discretion.

Applicants must meet the general university requirements for admission. In addition, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:

  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a GPA of 3.0 cumulative or last 60 hours
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and have three or more years of increasing professional/managerial work experience
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree with an undergraduate grade point average and GMAT (or the GMAT equivalent of GRE) scores totaling at least 1,000 points based on the formula: 200 times the overall undergraduate GPA for the first baccalaureate degree (4.0 system) plus the GMAT (or the GMAT equivalent of GRE) score

For students with a 3.0 GPA or three or more years professional experience (with a minimum 2.5 GPA), the GMAT may be waived.
