When are classes held?

The MBA program is designed to be flexible for people with full time obligations during the day. Classes meet Monday – Thursday, 5:30 pm – 8:25 pm. Four courses are offered online with the Enterprise Resource Planning concentration or certificate. In addition Leadership courses include Friday night/Saturday morning offerings.

How many credits do I need to complete the Lamar MBA program?

For those with an undergraduate business degree, the Lamar MBA is a 36 hour program, (24 hours of core and 12 hours in a concentration). If you do not have an undergraduate business degree you may be required to take up to 12 hours of leveling courses. These courses (if on your transcript) can be waived by the graduate director at their discretion.

How long does it take to earn the MBA?

You can earn your MBA in as short as 1 year and as long as 6 years. Although on average students take 16 to 24 months (depending on leveling courses required).

How many credits can I take per semester?

Full time is 9 hours (3 courses) and students can take up to 12 hours in a long semester (4 courses).

Can I earn the MBA on Saturdays?

No, however, courses for the Leadership Certificate are offered on Friday evening and Saturday mornings. Four of these courses can also be used as electives for the MBA.

What concentrations are offered with the Lamar MBA?

Criminal Justice Management, Enterprise Resource Planning, Experiential Business & Entrepreneurship, Financial Management, Healthcare Administration, Service Marketing and Management, Thematic, and Leadership and Organizational Management

Can I transfer hours from another MBA program to the Lamar University MBA program?

6 hours can be transferred into the Lamar University MBA if the courses are from an AACSB institution.

Are scholarships available?

Scholarships are available to students that meet the following criteria: GPA X 200 + GMAT = 1150. Additional scholarships may be available each May.

How does grade replacement work in the MBA program?


In the MBA program, unlike many undergraduate programs, you can NOT grade replace. All courses are counted and calculated into the GPA. With approval of the chair of the major department, a student may enroll for a course a second or subsequent time and have it count as part of the semester's load. If a course is repeated, the last grade recorded will be considered the official grade, but the original grade remains on the student's record as a course taken. 

What is the application deadline?

Domestic Students: Prospective domestic graduate students should submit all admissions materials at least 30 days prior to the start of the semester in which they wish to begin studies. Please refer to our page for Graduate Admissions
International Students: Applications should submit materials as soon as possible to allow time for visa interview appointments at the U.S. Embassy or Consulate, which may have wait times of days or weeks. To find specific dates please refer to our page for International Admissions

What other graduate programs are offered through the business school at Lamar University?

Other than the MBA, the College of Businesses offers a Masters Degree in Accounting (MSA) as well as Certificate programs in Enterprise Resource Planning (online) and Leadership.
