MEET THE FACULTY

Letter From Your Department Chair

Dr. Allen Welcome to the Department Economics and Finance Department in the College of Business of Lamar University.  Our department offers three degrees:  a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Economics, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Finance, and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Economics and Finance. The double major in Economics and Finance is based upon a specially designed curriculum that does not require extra hours or time.  A minor in economics can be earned by any Lamar student irrespective of major or college.

Economics is social science that brings to light valuable insights about subtle forces that shape the business world.  It answers questions such as what kind of underlying economic fundamentals lead to economic and financial crises and what happens when a market consists of one seller and many buyers. Economics provides ways of thinking about how to allocate resources for maximum advantage. The Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics aims to meet the needs of students seeking a broad understanding of the economic principles that govern economic and business activity.  In addition students in this program learn to think critically about social issues. Students completing this program acquire a solid foundation for careers in business, economics, government and law.  This program also prepares students for graduate study in economics. Your professors and course work will teach you the art of thinking logically, which straightens the path to success in any field.

Sincerely

Larry Allen, Ph.D.

Chair and Professor of Economics
