2018 – 2019:  Southwestern Finance Association.   Secretary/Treasurer for the Southwestern Finance Association (2018-2020).  Attend two meetings per year.  Take minutes and distribute after the meeting.  Deposit receipts and pay bills.  Report on transactions and standing of the organization twice a year. Prepare the 990 tax return.
2011 – 2012:  Southwestern Finance Association, Houston, Texas.  I was elected to the board of directors of SWFA in March 2011. The entire board consists of 8 members. The main duties of the board are to put on the annual conference event in March of each year and to oversee the Journal of Financial Research, jointly with the Southern Finance Association. Specific duties at this conference were to attend and participate in the Reception held on Thursday evening, attend and participate in the Breakfast Meeting of the Board of Directors on Friday, and attend the Luncheon that was also held on Friday. A number of items of SWFA business are handled via email and conference call meetings throughout the year but board members are also required to attend biannual meetings which are held at SWFA in March and at FMA in October of each year during a two-year term of office.

2015 – 2016:  Southwestern Finance Association, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  Served as Vice President of Events for the March 2016 South Western Finance Association (SWFA) conference. SWFA is the finance organization within the Federation of Business Disciplines (FBD). This service appointment began with attendance at meetings during the March 2015 SWFA meeting in Houston TX. During the year, I worked to make arrangements that culminated in a board breakfast, general meeting luncheon, and cocktail reception during the March 2016 SWFA meeting in Oklahoma City.  I was also responsible for ordering plaques for those who served on the board and for the keynote speaker award recipient and ordering award certificates for the best paper award winners and helping to present the awards at the conference.

2011:  Gas prices feature story for KBMT-12 news, Did an interview with Mollie O'Brien of KBMT-12 News in Beaumont about the decline in oil and gasoline prices. Explained to her what other factors affect gasoline prices and how economic conditions affect oil prices. Discussed current conditions in the stock market and economic conditions in the US, Europe, and China.
2008:  Mountain Lakes PBS, I was featured in an episode on the US Debt held by China on the Mountain Lakes PBS program Mountain Lake Journal.

 

Other Community Service Activities
2011:  Junior Achievement of the Golden Triangle Finance Park, Spent a day working with high school freshmen on a comprehensive personal finance and budgeting case study at Memorial High School in Port Arthur. Other volunteers were mostly from ExxonMobil and Valero Energy so it was also a good networking and public relations opportunity for Lamar. Event held on 4/29/2011, 8am-3pm.
